This Halloween, step into the eerie ambiance of The Basement for an unforgettable retelling of Dracula, brought to life through immersive audio storytelling and theatrical effects. Descend into the depths and experience the chilling tale of Bram Stoker's iconic vampire, where every heartbeat, whisper, and footstep will send shivers down your spine.

Choose from three shows: one at 7 PM and another at 11 PM on Halloween night, October 31st, perfect for early thrill-seekers or night owls craving a late-night scare. Doors open at 6 PM. An encore performance will be at 2PM on November 2nd.

For the Full Theatrical Experience, tickets are just $15 in advance or $20 at the door, securing you a front-row seat in the spine-tingling performance space.

Prefer a more laid-back but equally spooky night? Enjoy the show in the Bar/Listening Lounge, where you can relax with a drink while the haunting sounds fill the air. Lounge tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

One of the original vampire novels jumps off the page in this new adaptation of Bram Stoker's seminal novel Dracula. After living in seclusion for centuries, the villainous Count Dracula sets his sights on Victorian England. After tricking innocent lawyer Jonathan Harker into purchasing an abandoned monastery for him, Dracula wreaks havoc on the inhabitants surrounding the property. When Lucy Westenra falls ill, Dr. Seward seeks help from his former teacher Abraham Van Helsing for help who realizes that Dracula is a vampire. Our heroes must stop this creature of hell before he takes over all of England and then the world!

Audition Information

Auditions will be held on October 7th at The Basement (300 E Broad St, Richmond, Va)

To audition, please go to the Google Drive link below. There you will find the production calendar, an audition form to fill out, a sign-up sheet for audition times, and sides for the audition. Fill out both the audition form as well as choose a time slot for your audition. You can either upload your resume in the audition form or bring a printed one to your audition time. Please prepare both the monologue side as well as the dialogue side for whatever gender you most identify as. A reader will be provided for the dialogue sides. Please be prepared to work with the director on the sides during your audition time slot.

This show is done in classic radio drama style with a twist. This is not a recreation of a classic radio broadcast, but a combination of radio dramas, reader’s theatre, and a full technical production.

Characters:

Mina Harker: Our narrator and fiancé, later wife, of Jonathan Harker. She is a dear friend of Lucy Westenra and an object of infatuation for Dracula.

Dracula: A proud Transylvanian who happens to be a dark lord of the night. A vampire of near unlimited power, Dracula turns their attention to one of the most powerful nations in the world, the British Empire, for their next conquest.

Jonathan Harker: A young solicitor from England who is assisting Dracula in purchasing an English estate. After being imprisoned by Dracula, he escapes and joins the hunters.

Captain of the Demeter: Captain of the ship Dracula travels to England on. A person of the world who doesn’t comprehend the supernatural happenings around them.

Lucy Westenra: The fiancé of Arthur Seward and friend of Mina Harker. She becomes an object of fascination for Dracula who turns her into a vampire.

Arthur Seward: A doctor and fiancé of Lucy Westenra. He is a former student of Abraham Van Helsing who calls on his mentor when Lucy starts to succumb to Dracula’s enthrallment. 

Van Helsing: A well-respected doctor who is very knowledgeable about the supernatural. They come at the request of Seward to tend to Lucy and recognize the symptoms of vampirism. They later lead the fight against Dracula.
